Special Education Expert Joshua Levy Publishes The Creative Outlet Method
New Workbook Features 30 At-Home Activities for Children with Special Needs
Foreword by Elizabeth Hampton, Associate Director of UT Lang Stuttering Institute
AUSTIN (December 15, 2020) – A new book from Austin-based special education expert and educational consultant Joshua Levy is a unique and fun toolkit for parents seeking to support positive growth and development for their children with special needs. “The Creative Outlet Method: At-Home Activities for Children with Special Needs,” includes detailed instructions for conducting over 30 enriching theater arts and improvisational activities, providing children with specials needs new opportunities to demonstrate creativity, increase self-confidence, and build social skills.
“School closures due to the public health pandemic pose a significant challenge to students with special needs who benefit the most from the structure and socialization of in-person instruction. Remote learning is hard on the kids, and their parents, who are trying to adapt to the new normal,” says Levy. “My new book guides parents to engage their children in fun at-home activities that support learning with creativity, as well as opportunities to develop and reinforce positive behaviors. The theater arts and improv activities I include in the book will be a welcome break from assigned curriculum while helping parents and kids connect in a fun way.”
The book is based on Levy’s proven Creative Outlet Metho process used to enhance every participant’s unique abilities while providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity, increase their self-confidence, and build their social skills.
The foreword is provided by Elizabeth Hampton, MA, CCC-SLP, Associate Director, The University of Texas at Austin Michael and Tami Lang Stuttering Institute. “Joshua recognizes that all children want to participate and communicate, but what that looks like for each one is different,” she writes. “In this practical, how-to guide, Joshua has provided encouraging techniques and meaningful activities to spark fun and performance and that meet a range of learning styles, allowing for each child to feel welcome, heard, encouraged, and successful.”
